New book examines Contemporary Nigerian Art

In A New Light: Conversations with Nine Nigerian Artists and Curators examines cross-cultural dialogue between contemporary Nigerian art and Western curators and institutions.  The book contains interviews with artists and curators on the positioning of Nigerian art in the international art market addressing such themes as global art politics, identity, gender, and race, among other topics.

In A New Light is authored by Kazeem Adeleke, an independent curator, artist and critic.

Haitian Art on Sale at Skinner Auctioneers & Appraisers, Boston

At the September 7th sale of American & European Paintings & Prints at Skinner Auctioneers & Appraisers (Boston, MA) the work of two Haitian artists are available for sale.

Jasmin Joseph's, Village on the Dragon's Wings, lot 721, is estimated to sell for $800 - 1,200.  The oil on masonite painting is signed by the artist and dated 1964.

Lot 722, Jacques Enguerrand Gourgue's Man and Donkey in a Mountain Landscape, is estimated to sell for $ 1,000 -  1,500.  The oil on masonite painting is signed by the artist and has some information on its provenance.  The date of the painting is unknown.
